Ultra Violet Lesbian Books

What are your favourite lesbian books of all time?

I have several... but if I chose one it would be Nicola Griffith's Stay. It's the 2nd in her Aud series but I read it first - I didn't realise there were others and I was so inspired by the writing and the story and the characters. It's actually probably my favourite book of all time, lesbo or not!

After that I have a long list!

More recently:
The Spanish Pearl and The Crown of Valencia.

Anything by Sarah Waters.

It's important to me that a book is well written and has a plausible story.

So what are yours?

I must say I really enjoyed Hit by a Farm, but I am reading the Spanish Pearl and the Crown of Valencia and Catherin Friend is a very engaging writer. It feels you are there...right in the world she creates in her books.

Hard to say which is my favourite book, but I also enjoyed "Life's Little Edge" by Roselle Graskey- it was awesome!!!

Wrien on the Body - Jeanette Winterson - um...so YUM....and cleverly written - every sentence is like poetry..every great woman should ave a copy!

Of course! I loved Written on the Body! She has such an amazing way of writing. I also really enjoyed Oranges are not the only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson. I've read other books by her but those 2 are my favourites.

This reminds me also of how we gravitate to our old favourites and maybe not give new writers a chance. I recently did an interview with Mari SanGiovanni on her book Greetings From Jamaica - which is an incredibly funny book, if you want to really laugh out loud. And she said, give new writers a chance too. There some writers that have been around for ages and there is a new crop emerging, which is a big reason why we started the site again, there is definitely an insurgence of lesbian writing happening at the moment and it's really exciting! The interview with Mari SanGiovanni will be up in a week or so's time.
