I was very excited when A Pirates Heart by Catherine Friend arrived in the post box. I'm a fan of Catherine Friends other books and so was looking forward to what kind of adventure she'd dished up this time.
I remember dressing up as a pirate for some birthday as a child and was looking forward to being immersed in the world of pirates for a while. I wasn't disappointed. Weaving between present time America and pirate time - 1715 in the Carribean, adventures and romance abound.
Buy this book now and read it, it will rid you of all your wintery cobwebs. I flipped though the pages trying to select an excerpt for the book review. This tended to be more difficult than anticipated as I immediately fell into the easy prose and familiarity of the zany escpades of an Italian family on their adventures on a Jamaica vacation.
Right from the memorable opening paragraph, “Farms have fences. People have boundaries. Mine began crumbling the day I knelt behind a male sheep, reached between his legs, and squeezed his testicles”, Hit by a farm grabs your attention, and like some stubborn farm animal, never lets it go.
This is the first book in the Brenda Stange
series. Entertaining and simply put an easy read. The cleverly inserted
prologue sets the pace and tone of the book from the first page.
