We started off as Ultra Violet Book Cafe in Melville in 2002. We stocked books for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgenders. The shop eventually closed in 2005. Even back then we had an online shop and took orders and supplied books to people all over the country.

So in May 2008 we decided to re-launch the shop as an online book shop, strictly catering to lesbians, because well, we love lesbians!

We also want to provide you with information, we want to make sure that you are kept up to date with what is happening in "dyke-dom" and what the best stuff to read and watch is. A one-stop-everything-lesbian-online-shop if you will!

Our official launch date is: 2 July 2008. Why the 2nd? Well it's a Tuesday and Tuesday always beats Monday!

More than 500 books!!!

I’m proud to say that Ultra Violet Lesbian Books has more than 500 Lesbian titles available for your reading pleasure. Over the past few months I have been reading as many Lesbian Fiction books as possible.

Michelle and I were recently requested to compile an Essential Lesbian Reading list and to no surprise it become clear that our lists would differ vastly. This comes down to the basic fact that the world is made of diverse people and of course readers with vast tastes in literature and the purpose of reading. As a result of our differing reading preferences it became apparent that there were a few stereotypical categories of readers out there and I thought I would share a few with you.
